It was a cold and rainy night in April, 2012. Much like any spring night one might experience in the greater Pacific Northwest. Nothing much special about it.
Tracy had just finished an evening of losing some muddy games of ultimate frisbee, and begrudgingly agreed to accompany his friend to a local bar. Shane (Tracy’s friend) needed a wingman. And Tracy is a really nice guy. So off they went.
Jill had just finished a long residency shift and needed to unwind. In Portland, this means beer. Probably an IPA. And Anne, a friend of Jill’s, just so happened to need a wingwoman that evening. Jill’s skills would be put to the test.
As luck would have it, the four of these fine people ended up sharing some beers at a funky dive, north Portland’s own Breakside Brewery. Jill and Tracy didn’t start dating until a few months later. But, Tracy knew, behind the smooth blues of B.B. King, the hoppy northwest beers, and with the many hipsters as his witness, that something had been set into motion.
Some say that it was the reverse; that the friends played the wingpeople, and Jill and Tracy were the setup. Who knows? All we do know is that, some years later, two people are planning a wedding. Well, one person is planning a wedding…
Needless to say, Jill and Tracy are forever grateful for their friends that evening. The two of them will be returning to Breakside, the place where it all began, a few days before the wedding as part of a day of activities. They invite you to come along.
