For the out of town guests – Thanks for making the trip out to celebrate with us – it means so much to us!

For those of you flying in from out of town, we recommend flying into the Portland International Airport (www.flypdx.com). This is the closest airport to the wedding venue.

If you are planning on flying in Friday or Saturday and heading straight to the wedding, you will probably want to rent a car from the airport.  Salem, OR is about 1 hour south of Portland along Interstate Highway 5.

If you plan on staying a night or two in Portland before the wedding (and you should if you can!), we recommend using public transportation for that portion of your stay.  The convenient and affordable Red line MAX train (www.trimet.org) runs from the airport right into downtown Portland.  A 2-hour all-zone ticket runs $2.30, and the trains run every 10-15 minutes during peak hours, every 30 minutes early in the am and later at night.  The charming but slow Portland Streetcar runs through downtown Portland and can be helpful when going between south and north ends of the city.  But the city blocks are on the small side and most of downtown portland is very walkable.  If you plan to explore the more funky and hipster-laden East side, you can take the MAX and buses to those neighborhoods, but a car would be much faster.

To get from downtown Portland to Salem, you have the option of renting a car – Budget, Avis, and Dollar all have car rental offices within downtown Portland.  Or you may want to keep it green and continue taking public transportation!  Amtrack runs trains and buses (www.amtrakcascades.com) from Portland’s Union Station to downtown Salem.  The Salem transit center is about a 15 minute walk from the Grand Hotel where the majority of guests will be staying.

It’s worth mentioning that if you plan on taking the bus and/or train to Salem, you should stay at the Grand Hotel, as the other hotel (Phoenix Inn) is about 3 miles south of the transit center in Salem.
